Republican District Board Members in Miami Florida are attempting to change school policy to bar First Lady Michelle Obama from entering a district school to address grassroots supporters and volunteers at Barbara Goleman Senior High School.

Board members Renier Diaz De la Portilla of District 5 and Carlos Curbelo of District 7 are behind this political game playing, with De la Portilla stating, “I’m going to propose a policy that extends to every elected official in the state of Florida and the United States that you cannot use or manipulate our public schools, taxpayer-funded public schools, taxpayer-funded public facilities, for political events…The use of public schools whose only focus should be to educate our children for political gain is downright wrong. Don’t these liberals have boundaries?”

The event is not scheduled to take place during school hours and falls well within the current district guidelines.

This is similar to the over-the-top reaction from the right back in 2009 when President Obama addressed the nation’s schoolchildren.
