“Honest – It’s a NEW Idea!”

Rick Tyler, former Gingrich aide, on being confronted with Gingrich’s recent racially coded language:

SMALL payday loans VERY CHEAP

…but our policies haven’t been tried…Maybe we should try our policies that put people back to work and not give them a hand out… why not just try freedom and free enterprise…”

Right. I mean, when did we ever try doing without unions, public assistance, child labor laws, anti-discrimination laws, and Affirmative Action? When did we ever just throw everything out to the free market system and embrace the idea that if someone is poor, it’s because of an inherent moral or genetic deficiency? When did we ever put poor kids to work? When did we ever just dispense with that outmoded notion of racial sensitivity and speak openly and frankly about the supposedly inherent lazy incompetence of people of African descent?

Tyler’s stance is akin to someone saying we ought to give their brand new approach to cooking a try. It involves squatting on one’s haunches around an open fire and hurling still warm and bleeding animal parts into it, then grabbing the charred meat out with your bare hands and scoffing it down, grunting appreciatively.
